Background information

Imagine creating a home in the middle of a village where laughter, music and carousels once filled the air. Between 1905 and 1949, Grönalund’s fairground was located here – a popular amusement park and dance floor with its own stop along the Börringe-East Torp railway line. Today the place is quieter, but the history remains in the walls and in the soul of the village.

Their journey is about more than renovation – it’s a story about creating a home and a future. Many steps are done on their own, from demolishing kitchens and oiling windows to painting and digging. We follow their humor, frustration and victories – all with a smile.

Siri and Oskar - a love story from concrete and techno to house and forest

Siri and Oskar aren’t just a couple – they’re a team. One of those dynamic duos whose energy is infectious and who seem to be able to take on just about anything, as long as they do it together. Their paths crossed through CrossFit, but it was an invitation to a technorave that really ignited the spark.

But life in the city, as vibrant as it is, wasn’t quite enough in the long run. They began to long for something else – for more space, more nature, more meaning. When they found the old house in Grönalund, all the pieces fell into place.

They don’t just want to renovate a house. They want to create a place where life can take place. Where children can run barefoot over freshly cut grass, where friends gather around a large dining table with room for laughter, where chickens peck at the gravel, and where the future feels soft, alive and natural. A home where it’s okay to grow.

The battle of the floor plan - Team Siri vs. Team Oskar

Siri and Oskar approach their dream house with a blueprint in hand – literally. Their ideas about how the kitchen should be placed differ in both function and feel. Siri wants the kitchen to meet you directly from the entrance, practical and efficient. Oskar dreams of placing it in the brightest room overlooking the garden, where the sun dances in through the windows.

Luckily, Gert Wingårdh steps in as diplomat and architectural compass. With his characteristic thoughtfulness, he reminds them of a simple but brilliant principle:

“The nicest room with the most beautiful light should get the most important purpose – and where are you most? In the kitchen or in the living room?”

The answer is clear. Oskar’s vision wins – the kitchen moves into the room where the light flows the most. At the same time, Gert’s suggestion of a more open floor plan is woven into the new layout. By taking down the wall between the hall and the living room and moving the toilet, a space is created where the rooms can breathe and conversations can flow freely between the kitchen, living room and garden. It’s a compromise where everyone wins – including the house itself.

Ripping start with ripping help - Friends, sweat and swinging crowbars

The renovation journey in Grönalund doesn’t start alone – it starts with a bunch of friends, a load of tools and a lot of energy. Siri and Oskar’s friends in the yard, ready to start the demolition with laughter, teamwork and a bit of competition.

“We see it as a bit of a competition – who is the craziest?”

says Siri as her crow’s feet fly through old paneling and laughter echoes through the walls. The wing gang and the training gang – two different groups of friends with one thing in common: the desire to help. And amidst this jumble of tarpaulins, dust and spontaneous laughter, the outlines of something new begin to take shape.

Interior design help from an influencer - a visit to Hannes Mauritzson

Amidstall the construction dust and colorful visions, Siri gets a creative boost when Oskar and Siri visit their friend and interior designer Hannes Mauritzson. Known from the Instagram account @hannesmauritzsonHannes isn’t just a friend – he’s also a source of inspiration.

With his Swedish Grace armchairs (auction finds) and a sense of how history and the present can meet in the home, he helps Siri to concretize her interior design dream.

Hannes describes his style as an inner compass rather than a strict trend – and we suspect that’s exactly the feeling Siri is after.

She wants her home to feel warm, cozy and personal, a place where you want to settle down and stay.

“I don’t know what to call it but rural meets turn of the century”,

Siri says with a smile.

The visit leaves behind both concrete ideas and a replenishment of courage – to dare to trust your own style, play with expressions, and not be afraid to redo.

A personal journey with lots of emotion and creativity

During the renovation, Siri and Oskar encounter many emotions. Birk, their beloved dog, falls ill and has to be put down – a moment that is portrayed with both sadness and warmth. It is clear how much place animals, nature and the simple life have in their dream.

Meanwhile, Oskar loses his job, and financial stress grows. But their energy and friends help them cope. Many tasks are done on your own, from oiling windows to painting and digging.

The kitchen is an example of how they think outside the box: a massive old merchant’s counter from the 19th century, painted with care by Siri and her friend Anna. The decor is influenced by country, turn-of-the-century and a little vintage charm.

The end of the beginning - when the dream becomes reality

Eightmonths have passed. When Anne and Gert return to Grönalund, they are greeted by something completely different from the dusty building chaos they last saw. Now the house is full of life – not just in the form of new floors, beadboard and kitchen solutions, but in every detail, every corner. The dream has been given body and soul.

The staircase, a technical dilemma, finally finds its place without blocking the light. Gert is impressed, and it blends in nicely with the beaded stairwell.

The living room, previously dark and cramped, is now bathed in light. The new, warm floors run unbroken through the rooms, and the whole house has a new rhythm – a flow where life can move freely. The old floor plan is gone, but the soul of the house remains. The double doors have been resurrected as proud symbols of what Siri and Oskar wanted to preserve, and even the much talked about electrical cabinet – despite some discussion about its location – feels like part of the charm.

The toilet has been cleverly relocated and is now hidden behind a bookshelf – a clever move that preserves both aesthetics and function. Upstairs, the children’s room and bathroom have taken shape, and it turns out that a new chapter is waiting – literally. Siri reveals that they are expecting a baby.

It’s touching to see how their journey has affected not only themselves, but also those around them. When former homeowner Eli visits the house, she immediately recognizes herself. She sees that the house is still the same – but alive in a new way. The old hasn’t been erased, it has been updated with respect.

Siri and Oskar are now standing in their finished kitchen, built around the restored merchant’s counter, and looking back on the journey. It was more expensive than planned – 5.7 million in total – but every penny feels well invested. “We wouldn’t have done anything differently,” they say, with that mixture of relief and pride that only someone who has built something from scratch can feel.

For them, this has never been just about bricks, roofs and stairs. It’s been about creating a place for the future – for dinners with friends, for children’s cries and chickens in the garden, for tomatoes on the porch and teacups in the morning sun. A home where things are allowed to be a little off kilter but full of love.

We at Stiligt wish the couple all the best and with that, this year’s house dreams are over.

Already looking forward to the next season and where the news was released at the end of the program that next year there will be 12 episodes.
