A bold decision - a school becomes a home
Kajsa and Hampus found the school building in Ramsåsa the day before their wedding. Although the building was in a terrible state, they saw the potential. For SEK 1.1 million, the old school became theirs, without even carrying out an inspection.
– We knew it would be a complete renovation. It felt like an opportunity we couldn’t miss , says Kajsa.
With the help of Hampus’ father Anders, an experienced carpenter, they took on the big project. Two of the walls turned out to be load-bearing, allowing them to create the open spaces they had dreamed of.

Challenges and opportunities - the renovation takes shape
A house with history requires care and attention to detail. The couple quickly realized that the dormers were rotten and that the house needed new life from the ground up. Hampus and Anders spent countless hours ensuring that every part of the renovation was done with precision. Kajsa, who was pregnant for much of the project, contributed with a clear vision for design and material choices.
Their decision to invest in wooden windows with mouth-blown glass proved to be a crucial detail. With advice from Gert Wingårdh, who visited the project, they chose to invest in genuine materials to preserve the feel and history of the house.

The details that make the difference
One of the most remarkable aspects of the renovation is how the couple has let history meet modern design. Wood floors, grey carpentry and preserved vents create a sense of authenticity that harmonizes with the modern elements. Even simple details like bare lamps and the meeting of different floor materials without moldings were praised by Gert Wingårdh, who called it perfect.
The kitchen - the heart of the home
Hampus, who loves to cook, dreamed of an industrial kitchen. The result is a kitchen that combines stainless steel, concrete countertops and a gas stove, giving a professional feel in a home environment. Gert Wingårdh hailed the kitchen as a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics, proving that the right choice of materials and design can lift a home to new heights.
