When does House Dreams 2026 start? And what are we longing for?

In the final episode 10 of House Dreams 2025, we got a small but exciting preview: Season 13 will consist of 12 episodes. This means that the 2026 season will be the longest yet, giving us even more opportunities to follow people’s dreams, construction chaos and amazing homes.

Although the official premiere date has not yet been confirmed by SVT, previous seasons have often premiered in January or February. There are many indications that it will be the same set-up in 2026 – but with even more stories to tell.

We can’t wait to see what these 12 episodes will bring – and what brave, stubborn, passionate people will step forward next.

But what do we hope for in 2026? What do we long to see, feel and be inspired by in the next season? From construction chaos and compromise to big dreams, here are our innermost desires. Because House Dreams are so much more than just houses.

Participants' house dreams in 2026

Although Husdrömmar has been good at highlighting different types of participants, we dream of an even greater variety among the participants. Because today, Sweden looks different – and the program should reflect that. We want to see more types of life and more ways of living

The more perspectives that are highlighted, the richer the stories become. It’s about representation – but also about recognition and learning. When we see different ways of living, we are inspired not only to build – but also to rethink what a home can be.

The dream starts in reality - more building process, please!

Something many viewers have been asking for, and something we really hope to see more of in the 2026 season, is the actual building process. Because that’s where the dream meets the reality – where it’s no longer about sketches and mood boards, but about foundations, insulation, joists, mistakes and magical solutions.

We want to see more scenes where we can really go behind the scenes:

  • When the developer discovers that the foundations have to be completely redone because the ground does not hold.

  • When a shipment of high-end windows gets stuck in port – and the whole schedule falls apart.

  • When someone is forced to tear up the bathroom floor three times because the case is not right.

  • When a couple is in the middle of construction chaos and wonders if their relationship will last.

It’s in those moments, when the dust is flying and the sweat is pouring, that we really feel that House Dreams is real. And it’s also where we learn something valuable – about decision-making, about project management, about patience, about compromise. In short: about life.

We want to follow you into the construction meetings, into difficult choices and creative solutions. How does it work when you build with straw bales? What does it mean to lead a construction project yourself without experience? What is it like to collaborate with an architect – and how do you navigate when your vision clashes with your wallet?

It’s not always glamorous. But that’s exactly what we love.

The result - a dream in physical form

After months, sometimes years, of hard work and waiting, the big reward comes. The house is ready. A new home. A vision made flesh. And that moment – when they turn the key and step inside – is magical. We want to feel more of that.

We hope House Dreams 2026 takes more time to show the end result in detail:

  • Walk through each room, showing the big picture but also the details: joints, moldings, lighting, material encounters.

  • Bring out the feeling of the room – how daylight falls through a panoramic window, how a floor creaks in that charming way, how the kitchen became the heart of the house.

  • Talk about what actually worked – and what did not.

  • Show before and after pictures! Let’s feel the difference – physically and emotionally.

It’s in the end result that we, as viewers, get the proof: not that everything turned out perfectly, but that they dared. And whether it’s a worn-out croft that’s been given a new lease of life or a newly built concrete and glass villa – when people say “This feels like home”, it’s worth it.

Small and large budgets - equal value

Another thing we really hope to see more of is variation in budgets. It’s inspiring to see grand new buildings with architectural firms and exclusive materials – but it’s just as inspiring to see how people with limited resources realize their house dreams with creativity, persistence and flair.

We want to see:

  • Single parents transforming a run-down townhouse into a vibrant home using recycling, paint and smart solutions.

  • Young couples building their first home with their own labor and second-hand finds.

  • Retirees realizing a lifelong dream in the countryside without breaking the bank.

And side by side we want to see:

  • Architect-designed houses that push the boundaries of design and technology.

  • New buildings with large spaces, custom-designed kitchens, solar roofs and advanced lighting.

Because dreams look different. What matters is not the sum – but the story behind it, the will, the work and finally the feeling when you stand on the threshold of your own home. There is as much value in painting your own kitchen doors as in importing specially designed fittings from Italy.

And that’s the breadth we want to see in House Dreams 2026.

Innovation, technology and the future of construction

2026 seems like a perfect year to look ahead. What will the future of construction look like? We hope to see more of it:

  • Smart homes with integrated technologies – from heating to lighting and security.

  • Eco-friendly solutions such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, passive houses and bio-based materials.

  • Modular houses and 3D printed parts, where construction time is reduced but design possibilities grow.

  • Energy optimization and climate adaptation, where houses meet our new reality of rising temperatures and extreme weather.

We want to see how technology is affecting everyday life – and how people are rethinking function, flexibility and future needs.

why we never tire of House Dreams

In a time where things are moving fast, where surface is often prioritized over content, Husdrömmar is a program that stops. That lets people tell their stories. Showing that the home is more than square meters – it is a place for life, for dreams, for failures and for hope.

For the 2026 season, we hope the editors will dare even more. More construction. More everyday life. More luxury. More reuse. More reality. More emotion.

Because the dream of home is universal. And when we get to accompany someone else on that journey – we often feel something about our own.

So to all those who make House Dreams possible: keep digging where it feels. Show us the way, the challenges, the beauty and the compromises. Because we’re not just looking for inspiration – we’re looking to understand.

And maybe, just maybe, to gather the courage to start building themselves.
