Andreas and Jennie's sustainable home in Veddige - Episode 10 - House dreams (2021)

In the season finale of Husdrömmar 2021, broadcast on April 6, we follow carpenter Andreas Vinterthun and his wife Jennie as they build an architect-designed, solid wood house that combines modern design with a deep respect for nature. Their unique site is made up of mountains, and instead of using blasting, Andreas chooses to work with the landscape as it is. He describes it as “talking to the rock” and letting it guide the project, resulting in a home that blends into its surroundings and preserves the original character of the site.

The house is built from solid wood, a material that is both durable and naturally beautiful. The architecture is simple and timeless, with large windows that let in light and create a close connection between inside and outside. Jennie and Andreas have also placed great emphasis on incorporating the raw beauty of nature into the design, with the house both complementing and respecting the surrounding environment.

Building on such a special site presents challenges, but Jennie and Andreas see every obstacle as an opportunity to find creative solutions. Their vision is clear: a home that is not just a residence but an extension of nature. An ecological round house in Kassjö - Episode 9 - House dreams (2021)

In the ninth episode of House Dreams 2021, we head to Västerbotten, where Erik and Laura are creating something truly unique – Europe’s northernmost straw bale house. With a vision of sustainability and self-sufficiency, they are building an ecological home that not only blends in with nature, but also makes the most of its resources. The house will have a round shape to optimize energy efficiency and create a soft and harmonious feeling, both inside and out.

The materials for the building are sourced locally. The straw bales that make up the walls are combined with clay, mixed with horse manure from the neighbor’s horses, to cover the facade, interior walls and floors. The result is a robust and naturally climate-smart house that can withstand the cold climate of the north. With its focus on local and organic materials, Erik and Laura’s project is a tribute to traditional building craftsmanship, while also being a modern example of sustainable construction.

However, building with straw bales and clay is no easy task. Erik and Laura face practical challenges that require both patience and ingenuity. But their passion for sustainability and drive to create a home that is in balance with nature allows them to overcome the difficulties.

The episode offers an inspiring journey where creativity and ecological ambitions meet. Join Erik and Laura as they show that it is possible to build a sustainable, beautiful and functional home that is at one with nature – a project that both impresses and gives hope for the future of building.
